The Project

Vicinity Architects is a multidisciplinary architecture firm based in San Francisco, serving clients across a diverse range of project types and industries. As the practice expanded, the firm faced a common challenge: how do you create a brand that feels consistent across multiple disciplines without becoming generic?

Their existing identity no longer reflected the quality of their work or the versatility of the practice. Each market carried its own personality, but the firm needed a unified brand capable of adapting to different audiences while maintaining a recognizable identity.

The challenge wasn't simply creating a new logo. It was developing an Architecture Branding system that could support the firm's continued growth while reinforcing the professionalism and design thinking behind every project.

Our Approach

We began with Brand Strategy, working closely with the firm's founder to understand how Vicinity wanted to be perceived as the practice continued to evolve.

Rather than designing around a single market sector, we focused on the values shared across every project: thoughtful design, technical precision, collaboration, and contemporary architecture. Those qualities became the foundation of the brand.

The visual identity centered on a refined wordmark paired with a flexible brand icon. A restrained typographic palette and adaptable color framework allowed each discipline to establish its own subtle personality without sacrificing consistency. Instead of creating separate identities for different services, the system gives every market its own expression while remaining unmistakably Vicinity.

As an AEC Branding agency, we believe architecture firms benefit most from identity systems that grow alongside the business. A well-designed brand shouldn't need to be reinvented every time a firm enters a new market—it should provide the flexibility to evolve while remaining immediately recognizable.

The Outcome

The new identity gave Vicinity Architects a cohesive brand foundation capable of supporting the firm's diverse portfolio today and its continued growth in the future.

The flexible system creates consistency across proposals, presentations, marketing materials, and digital platforms while allowing individual practice areas to maintain their own subtle character. Rather than limiting the firm's versatility, the identity reinforces it.

Perhaps most importantly, the new brand reflects the same level of care, clarity, and craftsmanship found throughout Vicinity's architectural work. It provides the confidence of a unified identity while remaining flexible enough to adapt as the practice continues to grow.

This project demonstrates how Branding for Architecture Firms extends beyond visual identity. The strongest brands create systems that support business growth, communicate expertise across multiple markets, and remain consistent through years of evolution.
