Branding your Contracting Company.

Here’s why your contracting company needs to focus on branding:

  • Branding improves recognition in the community.

  • Branding creates trust between your business and your clients, existing and potential.

  • Branding distinguishes your firm from the one across the street.

  • Branding builds financial value.

  • There’s a lot more that branding does - we are keeping it simple to start with.

What is a brand? Simple, it’s that gut feeling someone gets when someone interacts with your business (thanks Marty Neumeier). Most likely, people already have a gut feeling about your business - it’s important to cultivate that feeling. Building a brand and building a structure is a little different, but the fundamentals are the same. It takes hard work, time, and experience.

"But my business is too small to focus on branding" - you (maybe)

It’s not too small, the right time to start the process is now. It’s never too early, or late, to craft your mission statement, define your positioning, and solidify your visual brand identity. Eventually, you will be writing RFP's for large projects and need you be able to tell a potential client why they should pick you over the four other builders bidding on the project.

Here are some questions you can answer to start the process:

  • Why do you build what you do? Homes? Commercial remodels? Affordable Housing?

  • Why should someone choose your contracting company?

  • How would you describe your business to a friend?
