Branding your Engineering Firm.

Seven Engineers standing on slab of concrete.

Here’s why your Engineering Firm should focus on branding:

  • Branding improves recognition in the community.

  • Branding creates trust between your business and your clients, existing and potential.

  • Branding distinguishes your firm from the one across the street.

  • Branding builds financial value and inspires employees.

  • There’s a lot more that branding does for Engineers - we are keeping it simple to start with.

What is a brand? Simple, it’s that gut feeling someone gets when someone interacts with your firm (thanks Marty Neumeier). Most likely, people already have a feeling about your firm - it’s important to cultivate that feeling. You spend time and energy conveying your ideas through your engineering solutions, you also need to spend time and energy cultivating your firms message to your community. It might be the thing that makes someone reach out to have you help engineer their house.

But,

“My firm is too small to focus on branding” - you (maybe)

"I’m too busy to focus on branding” - you (probably)

“I already have a logo” - you (most likely)

Well,

Your firm is not too small.

You might be too busy (That’s why we exist).

A logo is a good starting point.

The right time to start the process is now. It’s never too early, or late, to craft your mission statement, define your positioning, or solidify your visual brand identity. While a logo is a start, there is so much more that goes into building your brand. It’s everything tied to your firm - the list is long - but, most importantly, it is the feeling that your firm gives off.

Here are some questions you can answer to start the process or audit your firm:

  • Why do you do what you do?

  • Why should someone choose your firm?

  • How would you describe your firm to a friend?

If you’re interested in learning more about the process, please shoot us an email at info@builtfair.com. We are always looking for ways to help architects grow their firm. You can follow along with us on instagram @builtfair. Thanks for reading!
