Portland AEC Firms Are Reshaping the City. Your Brand Should Reflect That.

Portland's built environment is in the middle of a real shift. Firms that understand where the market is going need a brand and digital presence that communicates that clarity to the clients and talent they want to attract.

The Portland Market

A city repositioning itself and the firms that build it.

Portland is not the same market it was five years ago. The Broadway Corridor redevelopment is reconnecting Old Town and the Pearl District, adding housing and office space in one of the most watched urban projects in the region. At the same time, the broader market is shifting. Big urban development has slowed, and the firms doing well right now are the ones that have repositioned early toward adaptive reuse, housing, mixed-use infill, and the smaller but steady work that keeps a firm healthy through a cycle.

Repositioning is as much a brand challenge as it is a business development challenge. If your firm has evolved but your website and identity still reflect where you were three years ago, you are telling the wrong story at the wrong moment. Clients in a shifting market need to see that you understand where things are headed and that you have the clarity and confidence to lead them there.

Fairbuilt works with Portland AEC firms navigating exactly this kind of transition. We help you get clear on your positioning, build a brand that reflects the firm you are now, and create a digital presence that puts you in front of the right opportunities.

Who We Work With in Portland

The Portland firms that typically partner with us.

We work with architecture firms, engineering firms, construction companies, and real estate development firms across the Portland metro. The firms that tend to get the most from working with us are those that are:

• Repositioning as the market shifts from large urban development toward housing, infill, and adaptive reuse
• Navigating a leadership transition or preparing for the next phase of firm growth
• Trying to differentiate in a competitive local market where a lot of firms look similar on paper
• Growing their team and needing a brand presence that attracts the right candidates
• Pursuing new project types and needing their positioning to reflect that pivot

If any of those sound like your firm right now, that is a good signal that this is the right conversation to have.

What We Do

Brand Strategy, Identity, and Websites Built for Portland AEC Firms

Our Capabilities
Our Capabilities
Strategy
Brand Strategy

Before anything is designed or built, we get clear on your positioning. Who is your firm for, what makes it different, and how do you communicate that clearly and consistently? For Portland firms navigating a shifting market, that clarity is the difference between chasing work and attracting it.

Identity
Brand Identity

We design identity systems that reflect the quality of your work and hold up across every touchpoint — proposals, site signage, your website, and everything in between. Not a logo in isolation, but a complete system your team can use.

Website
Design & Development

We build websites that position your firm clearly, showcase your work with intention, and give the right clients a reason to reach out. Fast, manageable, and built to grow with your firm.

Why Fairbuilt

Most Agencies Make You Explain Your World. We Already Live in It.

Fairbuilt was founded by Brad Phillips, who spent years practicing architecture before launching the studio. That background is not a footnote. It shapes how we approach every project.

We understand how Portland firms win work. We know the difference between positioning for civic and institutional clients versus positioning for a developer-driven residential market. We know what a strong RFP response looks like and how your brand either supports or undermines it. We know the firms you compete with and what it takes to stand apart from them.

You will not spend half our engagement teaching us the industry. We are already here.

We are based in Portland. We work with firms across the city and the broader metro. And we are ready to talk about what the right next step looks like for your firm.

FAQ

Answers to Common Questions

Do you only work with firms in Portland, or do you take on projects across Oregon?

We are based in Portland and work with firms throughout the metro area and across Oregon. We also work with firms nationally. Portland is home, but geography has never been a barrier to doing good work.

How do you handle a rebrand when we have existing clients who know our current identity?

Carefully. A rebrand does not have to feel like a break. We help firms evolve their identity in a way that signals growth and forward momentum without feeling like a departure from what clients already trust. The transition is part of the strategy, not an afterthought.

We are a small firm — is Fairbuilt right for us?

Yes. Many of our best engagements have been with small and medium sized firms that do exceptional work and are ready to present themselves at the level their portfolio deserves. Small does not mean your brand should feel like an afterthought.

We are in the middle of repositioning our firm. Is this a good time to rebrand?

It is actually one of the best times. When you are making a deliberate shift in the kind of work you pursue, your brand and positioning need to support that move. Waiting until after the transition often means carrying an identity into new markets that was built for the old ones.
