Website Design & Development

A Website That Works as Hard as Your Firm Does

Your website is the first place a client, candidate, or partner goes to evaluate your firm. If it does not immediately communicate quality, expertise, and credibility, it is costing you work. We design and build websites for AEC firms that do exactly what they are supposed to do.

Why Websites Matter

Your website is more than a portfolio. It is your most visible business tool, and it should work as hard as you do to attract clients and convert attention into opportunity.

The Problem

A brand built in pieces shows.

Most AEC firm websites have the same problem. They are portfolio sites that show the work but do not sell the firm. They load slowly, look dated, and were last touched two website trends ago. The projects are buried. The team is an afterthought. The call to action, if there is one at all, is a generic contact form at the bottom of a page no one reaches.

And because the firm keeps winning work through referrals, the website never becomes urgent. Until it does. Until a potential client checks it before a meeting and comes in with a different level of confidence. Until a strong candidate crosses you off the list before you knew they were looking. Until a competing firm with a sharper digital presence starts taking work you should have won.

Your website does not need to be fancy. It needs to be clear, credible, and easy to act on.

The Solution

What an AEC website from Fairbuilt looks like.

We design and develop websites that give AEC firms a fast, polished, and fully manageable site without ongoing developer dependency. Your team will be able to update your own content without calling us every time a project wraps or a team member joins the firm. Every site we build is designed to do three things well:

Position your firm clearly. From the first scroll, visitors should understand who you are, what you do, and why your firm is the right choice for the kind of work you want to attract.

Showcase your work with intention. Project presentation matters. We build case studies and portfolio layouts that give your work the context it deserves, not just a grid of photos, but the story of what you solved and why it matters.

Convert attention into inquiry. A great website moves visitors toward action. That means clear calls to action, an easy path to contact, and content that answers the questions clients and candidates actually have before they reach out.

Who It's For

A website engagement is right for your firm if...

• Your current site no longer reflects the quality or direction of your firm
• You are rebranding and need a digital presence that matches your new identity
• Your site was built years ago and has not kept pace with your portfolio or your team
• You are entering a new market or pursuing a new project type and need a site that supports that pivot
• Potential clients are checking you out online before meetings and you are not confident in what they find
• You need a site your team can actually manage and keep current

How it works

How the Website Process Works

Step 1: Discovery and Strategy Alignment

Before any design begins, we get clear on your goals, your audience, your positioning, and what success looks like for this site. If you have completed a brand strategy engagement with us, this step builds directly from that work. If not, we run a focused discovery phase to get aligned before we build anything.

Step 2: Site Architecture

We map out the full structure of the site before we design a single page. This covers the page hierarchy, content structure, navigation, and the paths you want visitors to take. Getting this right early saves significant time and rework later.

Step 3: Design

We design your site in Figma before a single line of code is written. You see concepts of what the site will look and feel like, review them, and approve before we move into development. No surprises. We aim to align the website to your brand. If you have completed a brand identity engagement with us, design builds from that work.

Step 4: Development

We build your site in Webflow, Wordpress, Squarespace, or your preferred platform with performance, responsiveness, and long-term manageability in mind. Every site is tested across devices and browsers before launch. We structure the CMS so your team can update project pages, team bios, and content without needing to touch any code.

Step 5: Copywriting SUpport

We offer copywriting as part of website engagements. Most AEC firms have a general sense of what they want to say. We help shape that into structured, SEO-ready copy that is positioned for your target audience and reads well on the page.

Step 6: Launch & Handoff

We handle the technical side of launch and walk your team through how to manage the site going forward. You are not left with a site you cannot touch. We recommend an option Website Care Plan in order for us to stay on as your go-to website team to handle monthly updates and content changes.

Why it Matters

Why a website is a business necessity.

Your website is working around the clock whether you are paying attention to it or not. The question is whether it is working for you or against you.

Every day, potential clients look you up before a meeting and decide how seriously to take you. Candidates check your site before applying and choose whether your firm is worth pursuing. Referral partners send someone your way and hope what they find matches what they promised.

If your site does not reflect the quality of your work, you are losing ground in all three places, often without knowing it. The client goes with the firm that looked more established. The candidate does not follow through. The referral loses confidence before they ever reach out.

A well-built website does not just fill a gap. It actively opens doors. It gives the right clients a reason to reach out, gives strong candidates a reason to apply, and gives your existing reputation somewhere to land.

What You Get

A fast, strategic, and fully manageable website.

Clear positioning from the first scroll. Your homepage will tell the right visitor exactly who you are, what you do, and why your firm is the one to call — not after they dig through four pages, but immediately.

Project presentation that does real work. Not a photo grid. Structured case studies with context, scope, and outcomes that give your portfolio the weight it deserves and show prospective clients what working with you actually looks like.

SEO and AI search structure. Every page built with proper heading architecture, keyword-aware copy, and technical SEO fundamentals so your firm shows up when the right people are searching — in Google and in AI-driven search tools like Claude and ChatGPT.

Copywriting that converts. Messaging shaped around your positioning and your audience. Every page says something intentional, not just something to fill space.

A site your firm can grow into. Built to scale as your portfolio expands, your team grows, and your services evolve. A CMS structure that makes adding new work straightforward, and a foundation that holds up for years.

FAQ

Common Website Design and Development Questions

Do you handle copywriting, or do we need to provide that?

We offer draft copywriting as part of most website engagements. If you come to the project with existing copy, we help refine and structure it for the web. If you need copy written from scratch, we can handle that as part of the scope. Either way, we make sure the final copy is clear, positioned correctly, and optimized for search.

What happens after the site launches? Do you offer ongoing support?

We offer post-launch support options depending on your needs. Most firms choose the Website Care Plan that keeps us on retainer for monthly updates and additions. We always provide internal team training at handoff. We reccommend the monthly Website Care Plan - Think of us as your on-demand website team.

How much does a website project cost?

Every project is scoped individually based on the size and complexity of the site, whether copywriting is included, and what integrations or custom functionality are required. If you would like a ballpark before a conversation, reach out and describe what you are working on. We will give you an honest range quickly.

Can you redesign our existing site, or do you only build from scratch?

Both. Some engagements are full rebuilds where we start from the ground up. Others involve redesigning and rebuilding an existing site structure with updated design, copy, and technology. We will assess your current site during discovery and recommend the approach that makes the most sense.

Do you handle photography for the website?

We often include team photography with website packages. This includes on-site photography, in-office photography, and headshots. A new website oftentimes requires updated assets. We scope architectural photography as seperate projects.

How do you work with firms that have internal marketing staff?

Well, in most cases. We're used to operating as a strategic layer beside an internal team, coming in with the expertise and bandwidth to do work that internal teams rarely have time to execute.

In practice, that often means we lead strategy and design, then hand off brand guidelines and templates your team can use independently. We're happy to train internal staff after a website launch, or to stay engaged as an ongoing strategic resource after the core project wraps.
